Two years ago I talked my wife into sleeping outside of the Apple Store with me on the eve of the release of the iPhone 3G. Early the next morning we bought 2 iPhones and that was the beginning of my iPhone recycling process. About ten months later Apple announced a new iPhone to be released that upcoming June, the iPhone 3GS. Being in a 2 year contract I wasn’t expecting to upgrade however at the last moment AT&T made most early adopters of the iPhone 3G eligible for early upgrade.

Was the 3GS worth the price of the upgrade? Could I justify spending another $300 on such minimal updates? Thanks to eBay the answer is yes. I was able to sell my iPhone 3G for $340. The buyer was someone who didn’t want a 2 year contract. Other buyers attempting to buy the phone were younger people who didn’t have the credit to qualify with AT&T.

I was able to recycle my iPhone last year and just put both our devices on eBay this morning to recycle them once again. Upgrading at no cost is really nice!!!!

Sent from my iPhone… Maybe for the last time … Until the new one comes.

Congratulations to the Los Angeles Lakers on winning their 16th franchise title. Thanks to both the Celtic organization and the Laker organization for a very exciting 7 game series. These past few months have been a great time to be a basketball fan and more importantly a Lakers fan.

Almost immediately following the game, so called Laker fans once again started finding ways to cause trouble, be destructive, and show the country exactly how we celebrate in Los Angeles. NOT !!! It is infuriating to see the groups of MORONS causing so much trouble and claiming that it is part of some sort of celebration. It appears to me that this group of people is looking for any excuse to act like complete idiots and thugs. The Lakers winning the NBA title is just an opportunity for such actions.
Something needs to be done about this type of behavior. The City of Angels is turning into the City of Thugs. Perhaps the Mayor should work with the Laker Organization and come up with a plan that when they win the next title if their is over a certain amount of arrests/disturbances, the parade will be cancelled and the city will pay for the team to go celebrate in Hawaii.
We are becoming too tolerant of completely unacceptable behavior and something needs to be done. Congratulations to the Los Angeles Lakers, shame on you Angelinos.

For me I am way too rational and realistic, I am a “the glass has liquid in it” person. Every day when doing my normal navigating around the world wide web I come across what appear to be some very unhappy people, “glass fully empty and dry” people. At first it was tolerable but with this being a daily occurrence, it is beginning to become somewhat depressing.
I am a huge fan of technology and of the social movement we are currently experiencing but I must be honest and admit that I don’t read through comments on articles much anymore. I also block/hide people on facebook that are constantly negative. Am I creating my own little bubble to hide in? Maybe, want to come in?

For years I associated the internet with my home or office. When out and about if I had a need for the internet I made a mental note to handle that task when I arrived at a location with internet access. Today, it is a completely different situation, instead of waiting until I get home, I just need to wait until I can safely and politely look at my handheld device. The internet now resides within my pocket.
Being a geek and a early adopter I have been using web enabled devices for many years now, however, because of the price of these devices and the cost of data packages it wasn’t something that the masses were likely going to embrace. As the prices have come down on both data and devices, things have changed dramatically. The internet is no longer bound to one location, it is wherever you want it to be. (mostly)
The adoption of these new technologies by the masses is changing the world we live in. This is very scary to some and very exciting to others. Personally, I am part of the very excited group, however, I do see potential dangers and problems that will most likely arise. In no way do I think that innovation should cease due to potential dangers, instead I believe that we as a culture must adapt to what is happening and be forward thinking enough to protect ourselves from potential possible dangers/problems. There are just too many great things that are happening because of our ability to interact and access the internet from anywhere.
The Internet is unleashed, are you?

It happens on facebook, twitter, blogs, and pretty much anywhere human interaction is allowed. The type of unkindness that I am referring to is rude and obnoxious interactions and comments. In no way am I saying that in some cases they aren’t warranted however when a website writes their opinion of a product, shares news, does a review and so on there really is no need to respond in an unkind manner. An intelligent and informed rebuttal would not only allow one to express their opinion but also benefit the community or other readers. Too many people resort to name calling, cursing, criticizing the website or author, and just being unkind. It is actually depressing to know that so many people are that unhappy and at the same time it is somewhat funny because most of these people wouldn’t have the nerve to interact in that regard in a face to face situation.

What many people forget is that the content they are reading/consuming is usually free to them. The majority of websites find a way to monetize without charging the reader. This business model also benefits the websites as it allows for more page views which increases the amount they can charge for ads but in the end the user benefits from free content.

With the web becoming such a great resource of information and with so many of us relying on it for that, it becomes an issue when people are scared to share their information/thoughts because they fear being ridiculed.

As the internet continues to grow and becomes even more of a part of our daily lives we need to recognize the significance of what is available to us and act responsibly in increasing its growth into what is and will continue to be the GREATEST WEALTH OF KNOWLEDGE on this planet.

This rant started off as a long winded way to say Mean People Suck and turned into an plea to protect the internet. The important thing to take away from this mess of a post is: Add value, not just noise.
